CMJH Students Support Community Through Giving

December 11, 2006- Cougar Mountain Junior High students were asked to help support local families in need by bringing in non-perishable food items as part of an all school food drive. CMJH students responded with overwhelming support. Over the course of three weeks, CMJH students, staff members, and some generous community members donated 7,384 total food items. The items will be sorted and disbursed to local families who really need the help.
The Food Drive was sponsored by the FCCLA and facilitated by FCCLA Advisor and Family and Consumer Science Teacher, Michelle Hamilton and CMJH Administrative Intern Kevin Mensonides.
Three ninth grade students spearheaded the collection effort, by going from class to class collecting and tabulating food items. Jennifer Mejia, Emily Lonoce, and Rachael Sorensen spent many hours after school volunteering their time for the Food Drive. According to Mr. Mensonides, "Their hard work and effort paid off, as this was the largest collection effort in CMJH's short history. These young ladies worked their tails off."
Last year CMJH collected only about one thousand food items.
Special thanks to Bird's Eye Foods who donated over 1,200 items to the Food Drive and to the CMJH staff members who encouraged their students to bring in items.
Way to go CMJH! Thank you for helping those in need!
