Cougar Student Serves as Page in Olympia

January 25, 2006- For one week in January, CMJH ninth grader Brandy Winter served as a page for State Senator Marilyn Rassmussen She spent one week in Olympia while fulfilling her duties as a page . Her duties included delivering messages, documents, and other important items to legislative staff members in various locations.

Brandy first became interested in becoming a page when she met Senator Rassmussen at the Cougar Mountain Dedication Ceremony in 2004. Brandy was a seventh grader at the time. Senator Rasmussen asked her to serve as a page.

You must be age 14 to 16 in order to serve as a page. Brandy requested an application from Senator Rasmussen this school year and was chosen as a page shortly after.

While serving as a page Brandy had the opportunity to meet many government officials including Governor Christine Gregoire.

"She was really nice and sweet," recounts Brandy of Governor Gregoire.

After serving as a page, Brandy felt that the job experience had changed her. "I feel better and really confident about myself. Being a page helped me to understand our government a lot better. I am even considering pursuing a job in politics."
