CMJH Students Do Well on WASL
October 18, 2005- Cougar Mountain Junior High School students scored very well on last year's Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL) tests. In fact, CMJH students had the highest scores in the Bethel School District among Junior Highs in Reading, Writing, and Math. Cougar Mountain has had the highest junior high WASL scores in the Bethel School District the past two years.
One hundred fifteen students (40%) passed all three sections of the seventh grade WASL in the areas of Reading, Writing, and Math. Approximately 73% of students passed the Writing portion of the WASL, which was a 20.1% increase over the previous year. Approximately 76% passed the Reading portion of the WASL, which was an 11.8% increase from the previous year. About 42% of seventh grade students passed the Math portion. Seventy-four eighth grade students or about 24% passed the Science WASL last year.
Principal Cliff Anderson commented on last year's WASL success by saying, "Success breeds success. Our goal is to meet the needs of every child in an increasingly diverse student body. "
Seventh grade students that passed all the three areas of the WASL and eighth grade students that passed the Science WASL will be recognized at an assembly on Friday, October 21.
